a tribute

To a friend who loved design, though he worked in the corporate world, and always dreamed of designing a chair.  Sadly he passed before he could realise this ambition.  May we live our dreams, you will always be in our hearts.

It's no secret that I am a HUGE fan of herringbone, be it floors, walls or textiles.  I am so excited that we are getting to do a herringbone floor on our new project.  I was on site this morning, to set it out.  While I can't wait to post pictures of the floor, all I can offer for the moment is a few pictures of the Parisian apartment of designers Gilles & Boissier, with a great herringbone floor.  Found via Afflante.  I'll share our version as soon as its laid.

ginger and fig

I am working on a very exciting project at the moment, along with my dear friend Mia, of studio number 19.  We are busy with a new restaurant called ginger and fig, in Brooklyn Pretoria, which will be open by the end of February.  We are onsite, and its all noise and dust as they are breaking through and opening it up.  Below is a before picture, with a few progress shots.  I can't wait for it to be finished.  I'll keep you updated as we go...

Anatomy design

Towards the end of last year anatomy design moved into a much needed bigger shop at 44 Stanley.  They now have plenty of space to spread themselves around, and allow us to drool over all the fabulous items that they make.  They also keep pieces from number 19, tjw collection and our very own josephine road.  Here are a few pictures I took one Saturday morning.  I think its such a great space with the huge windows and courtyard worth a visit.  We had lunch afterwards at 3 Mary's which anatomy designed, and it was a treat to be served coffee in these familiar friends, it was just like being at home.

a few favourites

Its Friday already, and all my good intentions to do a few posts seem to have been set aside for work.  But there is always time for pinterest, even if it is just before bedtime.  Here are a few of my favourite finds, I'm definitely on a monochrome trend this week.  Have a fabulous weekend.  Click on the images for links.

Love this mirror.

its going to be a great year

We've hit the ground running after the summer break and are recharged and steaming ahead with the first projects for the year.  Its been a busy start and we are only 2 days in.  There is so much to be excited about, including our favourite right now,  a fabulous new artisan eatery that we are working on in Pretoria (just what the capital needs) that should be open by the end of Feb!  Josephine road is getting some love too, with the latest piece finished during December.  The XL storage jar is available from Anatomy at 44 Stanley, pictured below with the rest of his crew.  And thanks again to house and leisure for the fabulous mention x
